But Would it Work in Palm Springs? Inspo and Fabric Selections as the Weather Warms

Pattern-driven fabric selections with color and movement for warm weather vibes as we move into spring

Spring has sprung in Southern California, and as the weather warms my mind seems to naturally move from the mountains to the desert - no doubt a luxury of where we live. One of the most progressive cities in the country pumping out unique design for the past decade (half century?) or so, perhaps the engine of the mid-century aesthetic we all around us, is Palm Springs, a place that has played an outsized role in my life since childhood, where I’d visit my great grandma after she left her home in mid-city Los Angeles to live out her days drinking martinis in the warm weather.

Recently inspired by the amazing proliferation of color and new life we’re surrounded by in Southern California, I went up to see my main contacts in Los Angeles’s fashion district, looking for inspo in the form of new fabrics with one key question in mind: but would it look good in Palm Springs, though?

The above selection is just a snapshot of what I found. We all are inspired by color and boldness, and envy the friend that can “pull it off” whether in fashion or decor. For me, maybe it’s a subtle backlash to the muted, monotoned color schemes that seem to rule the day, but these bold patters, perfect for a statement drapery or roman shade, really resonate recently.

Find inspo in nature

The colors of spring are among us. Recently the amount of color that has flooded the landscape can’t be ignored. From front yard gardens to the greens and reds off the rocks, cacti, and wildflowers just off the highways like 395, below is a little pallete of what’s been inspiring me.

Green linen roman shades, unlined for the full effect of texture, in a kitchen in a historic home in Long Beach. Like classic cars, historic homes let you go places with color that modern and traditional homes just can’t.

Natural Fibers, Linens, and Sheers

Even in the world of bold patterns and color, natural fibers and the subtle tones of neutrals still play an important role and “fit” into the aesthetic. Whether they bring their own bit of flavor to the party, like this linen with pearls (someone please help us do some roman shades with this), add some additional texture in the case of natural fibers, or just calm down the room enough to let the patterns remain the focus and star of the show.

Below, a few recent additions to our catalog of linens, sheers, and woven wood or natural grass shades.

A Note on our Fabrics

We have hundreds of fabrics to select from, perhaps over 1000 (frankly, we haven’t counted!) and are always identifying new and interesting selections. Most of our fabrics you won’t find from any other window treatment company as they are personally curated from importers in the fashion district in Downtown Los Angeles. We work with them weekly to discover what is new and different, and bring it to our clients.

These relationships are how we are able to keep our prices so much lower than our competitors (no need for the middleman).

Or, if you’ve seen something you love, we are generally able to match it - sometimes even enhance it - with something similar but truly unique. We are also vendors from most major fabric houses (Fabricut, Pindler, Greenhouse etc), though prefer to work local and source direct, right here in our backyard, in the fashion district.
