Field Trip: Paris Deco Off Show
In January I took the opportunity to attend the Paris Deco Off show in the St. Germaine neighborhood of Paris. What I found were some incredibly craftsmen and brands with shared business philosophies, and some interesting products we are already incorporating into projects back home.

Are You Underestimating the Impact of Custom Window Treatments?

Field Trip: Paso Robles Renovation with Relaxed Roman Shades
Updating this Paso Robles hacienda included some elegantly chunky Irish linen roman shades. As the project was for a personal relationship, we played designer and drove the renovation which included reconfiguring the space, upcycling materials, and overall material selection.

The Bag in Question
Our Artfully Crafted roman shades and draperies are made by hand, custom, right here in Los Angeles. And while we deal in products and materials that are more mass produced, we have a certain love for the uniqueness of the handmade. The following are some musings about the role of handmade goods in our on-demand, mass produced society, spurred by an often complimented $13 Guatemalan leather satchel.
Exhibit Opening: Oriana Poindexter Laguna Beach
Friend and collaborator, marine scientist and artist Oriana Poindexter exhibits her work in her home town of Laguna Beach. Of course we made the trip to attend the gallery opening and check out some of her newest works in person.

Motorized Roller Shades in Laguna Beach
Large homes with uniquely shaped windows can present challenges when it comes to window treatments. While we love the ocean views in this Laguna Beach hillside modern house, that much glass and open exposure leads to challenges in daily comfort and living, including heat, glare, and damage to the interior of the house. The solution in this case was motorized roller shades…read about the project details in this blog post.

Enchanted Spanish Revival Renovation
This 1930s Spanish Revival home in the heart of Belmont Heights in Long Beach underwent a full "down to the door stop" remodel over the course of about a year. The window treatments featured our house fabrics almost entirely, with a few other special designer selections sprinkled throughout. Our vertical design, fabricate, and install, plus local sourcing helped keep costs down and design language high.

Two Spring Recipes
Those that know me well know that next to curating spaces and creating with my hands, perhaps my favorite form of expression is through sharing good food with good people. Much like my approach to business, an interest in food from an early age led to an interest in the quality of ingredients I cooked with, and therefore a passion for gardening and fresh, home grown seasonal produce.

Field Work x John Ahmad Rugs
John Ahmad is a third generation Afghani-American rug curator, collector, and seller based in Los Angeles whose family has been in the business for 100 years. His showroom is on Robertson Blvd, right in the heart of some of the most prominent home-furnishing stores in California, and therefore, the United States. But what you will find with John, his collection, and his approach to how he curates product is what separates him from the rest - this is a long, long way away from a Direct to Consumer Instagram brand experience.

Hermosa Beach Strand
This ground up remodel in Hermosa Beach got a little bit of everything when it came to window treatments. From stylish yet functional motorized roller shades, woven wood roman shades, to draperies in both cozy linen and rich, luxurious velvet with classic handmade iron hardware.

The Source for Custom Linen Drapery in LA and Orange County
Linen draperies are a staple in Southern California design, and something we design and install all over Los Angeles and Orange County.
