Exhibit Opening: Oriana Poindexter Laguna Beach
Friend and artistic collaborator shows her work in her home town of Laguna Beach at the Laguna College of Art and Design.
A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of going down to support our long time friend and Field Work collaborator at the opening of her exhibit at the Laguna College of art and Design Gallery. Oriana was born and raised in Laguna, so this exhibit was a bit of a homecoming for her, and something special. She is a true waterwoman and has wielded a camera for as long as we’ve known her. We first met in our 20-something years, both living in Venice after I had graduated from UCLA and she had graduated from Princeton a few years later.
Our friendship was forged around ocean activities, mostly surfing and diving the beaches of Malibu and north county LA, with plenty of Baja surf expeditions mixed in as well. Eventually, Oriana exited the LA scene and moved south to continue her studies at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, where she really started to overlay her passion for photography onto her work as a marine scientist.
Earlier in the year, we worked together to produce one of her signature cyanotype prints onto a piece of natural linen that we then turned into a roman shade and piece of functional art, launching our Artfully Crafted initiative. You can see a more detailed write up of that project and watch the video here.
We are happy to get the opportunity to collaborate with such talented and inspiring friends, while carrying this inspiration and innovation that comes from these collaborations to our clients. Keep an eye on Oriana as she is always up to something cool and inspiring, and no doubt we will be seeing lots more from here in the years to come. Her website is a great place to start if you are interested in keeping up with her.
